CG Schmidt, a family-owned company since 1920, provides professional construction management services throughout the Midwest. CG Schmidt's main office is located on the northwest side of Milwaukee in a one-story, 32,772-square-foot office building that accommodates approximately 100 full-time employees. The building was constructed in 1998 when the company moved to its current location. From the very beginning, the new office was designed to be energy efficient.
In 2008, CG Schmidt decided to earn recognition for its efforts by applying for, and earning, the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance. Although the company had been focusing on energy-efficient practices since 1998, CG Schmidt wanted to not only stay current, but also improve. As CG Schmidt Energy Manager, Mike Hoadley said, "If we aren't improving, we're falling behind."
The following are several of the energy-efficient features that are helping CG Schmidt maintain superior energy performance:
- The HVAC and lighting controls have been re-commissioned to verify and modify set points and time schedules.
- CG Schmidt management launched an education and awareness campaign that encouraged individual accountability amongst employees for saving energy.
- The underground parking garage lighting was changed from 24-hour metal halide lights to compact florescent lights on occupancy sensors.
