Woodland Elementary School opened in 1971 with 13 classrooms. After three additions the school now has 65 classrooms. In 2009 the mechanical systems for all of the school (except the 2007 18-classroom addition) were replaced with water source heat pumps for classrooms, air-cooled/gas fired roof top units for assembly areas, and some variable air volume systems for office areas. The 2007 addition has variable air volume air-cooled/gas fired roof top units. The school has a robust direct digital control building automation system by Automated Logic Corporation. The building sits on a 20-acre site in the City of Sandy Springs.
