Temple Terrace City Hall is a three-story, 32,112 square-foot building located at 11250 North 56th Street in Temple Terrace, Florida. Temple Terrace is an incorporated city adjacent to Tampa, Florida. The facility was built in 1977 and houses the City Council chambers as well as various City departments, including Finance, Community Development, Code Compliance, Risk Reduction, Human Resources, IT, the Police Department, and the Executive Offices.
In 2007, City staff members created an account in EPAs ENERGY STAR measurement and tracking tool, Portfolio Manager. The beginning baseline energy performance score was 60. In 2014, after seven years of energy improvements, the City earned the ENERGY STAR by achieving a score of 86.
City Hall earned EPAs ENERGY STAR certification by pursuing efficiency gains that could be accomplished easily and for a low cost. Upgrades were initiated in 2008 to enhance energy efficiency and save taxpayer dollars. Energy-saving improvements included lighting upgrades, such as replacing all the incandescent and fluorescent exit signs with LED exit signs, and replacing all the flourescent lights with LED lights. Occupancy sensors were installed throughout the building to reduce unoccupied lighting energy. Other steps taken to increase efficiency included repairing insulated ductwork, replacing three electric water heaters with a natural gas tankless water heater, and replacing the heating and A/C system throughout the building with energy-efficient systems. The overall amount paid for electricity has dropped by more than 30 percent in a seven-year period.
