2014 is the 5th consecutive year that The Interchurch Center has obtained the ENERGY STAR label. After receiving a score of 84 in 2010, the Center's first ENERGY STAR label year, the Center's score dropped to 77/78 for the succeeding 3 years. NGKF and The Interchurch Center met to see how to bring this rating score back to where it started.
As the builidng was in process of complying with New York City's various local building regulations, it identified areas where capital improvement was needed to bring this 55 year old building into the modern age; the team identified several areas where the improvements can be made and started working on various projects.
In the past 3 years, The Interchurch Center has:
-- Replaced approximately 1,300 windows with new high energy efficient windows
-- Installed new roofing, retrofitted older T-12 light fixtures with T-8 electronic ballasts throughout the building
-- Implemented new steam valve/trap maintenance
-- Replaced older pump/motor with new efficient pump/motor; and
-- Installed thermo jackets on heating related equipments such as boilers, heat valves, traps, etc.
As several of these projects were completed in the first half of 2014, The Interchurch Center was able to bring its ENERGY STAR rating back to 84, where it started in 2010, and is looking foward to continuing its work on several areas to improve the current score.

Testimonial:
If one look carefully enough, there are many places where energy can be reduces without impacting building operation and for older buildings, more can be done with replacing obsolete equipments with efficient equipments.
As a managment company, having an ownership who is supportive and have drive to achieve highly efficient building is huge plus. We will be constant working with The Interchurch Center to continue to obstain Energy Star label for years to come.
