Transwestern's 330 North Brand building, winner of the 2017 greater Los Angeles TOBY award in the Green Earth category, is a high-rise office tower conveniently located in the heart of Glendale's business district, which offers a diverse range of fine restaurants and shopping opportunities for visitors and the local business communities.

Built in 1983, 330 North Brand has 11 office stories, including retail and a seven-level parking structure adjacent to the main tower. In addition to management's continued commitment to ENERGY STAR and superior energy management, 330 North Brand has been awarded the LEED GOLD certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Many energy-saving projects have been implemented in order to achieve and maintain superior energy performance. In 2006, a new Fibertite (cool) roofing system was installed to increase solar reflectivity and infrared emittance. A lighting retrofit has been implemented utilizing the latest generation of FO28 light tubes and electronic ballasts, while also replacing all metal arc/halide lamps with compact fluorescent lights (CFLs). The building's management also installed new T5 exterior and perimeter lighting with photosenors. Restrooms on all levels of the building have been refurbished, including new, low-flow plumbing fixtures and occupancy sensors. The building's management team also operates a recycling program and is proud of its tenants' support in this task. More than 29,800 tons of paper products are collected each year, reducing the building's dependence on city facilities by more than 75 percent. Over 19,200 pounds of e-waste (electrical equipment) are recycled annually, as are light tubes, batteries, and ballasts.

As part of the building management team's continued quest for energy and environmental efficiency, it has installed the following:


-- Two new 350-ton variable frequency drive (VFD) chillers

-- VFDs on cooling tower fans, chilled water, and condenser water pumps

-- VFDs on air handling units located on each floor of the building

-- A new energy management system (EMS) to control building equipment and lighting operations to maximize operational efficiency
