Hines developed and manages US Airways Corporate Headquarters, a nine-story, 218,000-square-foot office building in downtown Tempe, AZ, and the first phase of what will be a true downtown corporate campus. The design, by Leo A. Daly Architects, incorporates as its distinguishing feature a curved roof, evoking an airplane wing in section. The balance of the exterior is clad in mirrored silver glass with architectural precast. The project was named 2000 Building of the Year by the Arizona Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP). The seven-acre site, which also includes a five-level parking structure and a landscaped exterior courtyard, is entitled for an additional 200,000 square feet of development.

 

US Airways Corporate Headquarters, designed with careful consideration to the dazzling sunshine and desert heat of its location, was exceptionally efficient at its completion, using such technologies as T8 fluorescent bulbs with electronic ballasts. In addition, Hines property managers operate a Demand Limiting program, monitoring electricity demand by floor and resetting interior temperatures accordingly. This careful attention has helped to reduce hours of compressor run-time and thus electricity demand.
