Built in 1911, the Danville Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, IL, is the home of branches of the U.S. District Courts, the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts, the U.S. Marshall Service, and the U.S. Probation Office. The three-story building is owned and operated by the General Services Administration (GSA).
Since it's construction, energy efficiency measures have been implemented to meet mandated reduction goals and to reduce operating expenses. The systems of the building are continually monitored and adjusted by an Energy Management System (EMS) profide optimum operation. Energy-efficient products are used modifications performed on the building. In addition, several small boilers are used instead of one or two larger units, which enables increased flexibility while satisfying varying heat load. Other upgrades that contributed to the building achieving the ENERGY STAR Label for Buildings include a new cooling system, heat pumps, lighting retrofits, Variable Frequency Drives, and different chiller configurations.
"The current efficiencies enjoyed at the labeled buldings in our region are the result of over 15 years worth of examination, evaluation, and implementation of energy saving philosophies and ideas. When considering equipment replacements we encouraged thinking outside the box. The awarding of the ENERGY STAR Label is a reflection of the building maintenance and property management staffs' efforts to reduce energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable work environment for its tenants.
