During the past 6+ years, each opportunity to install energy-saving devices has been taken into account in both the active construction program and the maintenance and repair program at the Clarksburg VA Medical Center. Using the lastest guidelines and ideas from industry, the Clarksburg facility has been able to replace, expand, or upgrade the Energy Control System; adjust and fine tune the heating, ventilation and air conditioning water balancing and air balancing; make use of radiant heating technologies for approximately one-third of the main complex; and install energy-saving lighting fixtures with upgraded, energy-efficient lamps and balasts. A significant portion of Clarksburg's energy savings has come from a recent project that replaced approximately one-sixth of the HVAC system within the facility with state-of-the-art air handlers, which are complete with dessicant-style dehumidifiers. Moreover the building has gone through two extensive reviews of the chilled water system to determine optimum efficiency levels.

"The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center is pleased to have earned the Environmental Protection Agency's prestigious ENERGY STAR for operating an energy-efficient facility that conserves our community's resources. We are proud to provide healthcare and help make our community a better place to live."
-- Glen E. Struchtemeyer, Director, Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center
