Beartooth Billings Clinic is a critical access hospital located in Red Lodge, Montana. Completed in 2010, the building features a high efficiency mechanical system that relies on ground water to heat and cool the building. The building combines the heat capturing ability of a water-to-water heat pump plant with an efficient low pressure drop VAV air system. The heat pump plant is sequenced to provide low temperature (115 degrees F) heating water and chilled water to the building. The system uses both air-side and water-side economizer systems to drastically reduce the need for cooling.  The main air systems in the building are variable air volume with digital controls to set back areas of the hospital that are not occupied at night.
