In 2007, Enervise, LLC began looking at ways to reduce energy consumption at its Cincinnati Headquarters. The first step was to create a "Green Team" consisting of top executives, facility managers, project managers, and associates from all business divisions. The team set a goal of reducing energy consumption enough to earn the ENERGY STAR.
In January 2008, energy consumption was benchmarked in EPA's ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, and the building received an energy performance rating of 64. This rating was set as the baseline from which to build. Next, Enervise investigated the energy consumption in the building by conducting an internal Enervise energy audit. The audit revealed that the building needed a controls upgrade to gain the ability to control all office suites from one central location. This updated control system created schedules based on the occupancy of the departments, and also enabled employees to override the system when working during non-business hours. Along with the controls, a lighting upgrade was implemented and several HVAC units were installed in dedicated areas to reduce the need to run units serving occupied and unoccupied areas at the same time.
As the efficiency projects were implemented, Enervise, LLC also rolled out low cost/no cost programs to all of its employees, recognizing their vital role in reducing the company's energy consumption. Recycling programs were publicized for paper, aluminum, cardboard, and printer cartridges, and Styrofoam cups were removed from the break room. The Green Team sent email reminders and tips to employees, and the President and CEO took time on holidays and weekends to walk through the building to ensure the office equipment was turned off and the controls were properly shutting off units during office closures.
High-level executive support created a purpose for the efficiency projects and programs implemented, and positively influenced all employees to take part in helping to reduce the building's overall energy consumption. Commitment from all employees allows the program to remain sustainable.

Testimonial:
"After committing to sustainability, we saw a payback from energy efficiency investments within eight months. With our ENERGY STAR score in hand, we have reduced our energy use by 14 percent to date. It makes good fiscal sense to take advantage of the methods, technologies, and incentives of the day."
