The Courtyard by Marriott in Fayetteville, Arkansas is located in the heart of Fayetteville's Business District and is the area's only eco-friendly hotel.  The hotel, constructed in 2007, consists of 110 spacious guest rooms and four suites, restaurant, lobby bar, meeting space, exercise facility, and indoor pool and spa.  The Courtyard has recently been recognized as Marriott Courtyard of the Year for 2009 based on uncompromising standards including a well developed sustainability action plan to reduce the hotel's carbon footprint.

"We feel it is our social responsibility as leaders in the Fayetteville business and hospitality community to set an example and do what we can to reduce and recycle waste whenever possible," said TJ Angeleno, General Manager of the Courtyard by Marriott, Fayetteville and Sustainability Coordinator for Vista Host, management company for the Courtyard Fayetteville.

The Courtyard by Marriott in Fayetteville is Northwest Arkansas' first ENERGY STAR labeled hotel and the only the second to become certified in the state.  The hotel has taken an aggressive approach to Marriott's company wide plan, Marriott's Spirit to Preserve, to offset the carbon footprint by guests and hotel operations. The plan includes an on-site sustainability coordinator and green team, guest and back of the house recycling programs, guest linen and terry re-use programs, and shut down procedures for water and energy conservation.

"Our team's goal is to cut back on waste throughout the hotel, including water conservation, electrical conservation, and recycling, while creating awareness for our guests and associates that they can take home with them," said Angeleno.

Communications:

The Courtyard by Marriott in Fayetteville has gone to great extent to streamline all previously written/printed communication to paperless forms both internally and externally.

Guests are encouraged to participate in the hotel's onsite recycling program and in reducing energy usage during their stay via a laminated letter from the General Manager placed in each guest room communicating our green initiatives.  Employees also receive various educational tips and information to bridge the gap between their green efforts at work and integrating those same practices at home.

Accolades received by the Courtyard by Marriott, Fayetteville for its Sustainability Plan include:  Northwest Arkansas Business Journal's Greenest Office, Silver Eco-Certification by Eco Crown Hospitality and a pilot company for the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce's GreeNWAy Program.
