Tri-Cities High School opened in 1988 as one of a line of five prototypical high schools constructed between 1988 and 1997. It opened with 72 classrooms and now has 98 classrooms in the main building. The building mechanical design is water source heat pumps for classroom areas and gas heat/air cooled roof top units for assembly and office areas. The school has a robust direct digital control building automation system by Automated Logic Corporation. It was originally formed by combining 4 schools: Woodland High School, Russell High School, College Park High School, and Hapeville High School. The building sits on a 34-acre campus in the City of East Point. In 2013 the roof was replaced with a highly reflective roof system, and a two-summer complete HVAC system replacement project was completed in 2014. Outside air pretreatment was upgraded, boilers were being converted to high efficiency condensing type, and the water source heat pump condenser water system was converted to variable volume pumping. The Engineer of Record for the mechanical upgrades is Matheson-Ball & Associates of Roswell, Georgia. Additionally, most of the exterior lighting was converted to LED fixtures.

The Tri-Cities High School Performing Arts Building was constructed in 2009  to improve facility support for the Tri-Cities Performing Arts Magnet Program. It has space for Band, Orchestra, Chorus and Dance programs. It is an attractive brick faced building that matches the adjacent main building for Tri-CitiesHigh School. It is served by ten Gas Heat/Air-Cooled Electric Roof Top Units.
