A converted school building, the 53,000-square foot administration facility is in operation for nine hours, 248 days a year. The facility is monitored using Johnson Controls Metasys, and air conditioning is generally kept off except for computer operations and special events. During the heating season, the building has an off-hour set point of 60 degrees. Rest rooms and meeting rooms are set back to 60 degrees in the winter, and the air conditioning is set up to 80 degrees when these rooms are not in use.

In 2002, the school building earned the ENERGY STAR Label, the first school administration building in Virginia. An "Energy Rally" was held involving students and public officials to highlight the importance of saving energy. The district also is affiliated with Energy Education, Inc.
