Renovated and managed by Hines, the 22-story, 3 million-square-foot Huntington Building has for decades been a landmark of central Cleveland. Designed for the Union Trust Company by the firm of Graham, Anderson, Probst & White, the Huntington Building was, at its 1924 completion, the second-largest office building in the country. Its L-shaped banking hall, flanked by 38-foot Corinthian columns, remains the largest banking hall in the world, extending 310 and 234 feet down the two legs of the "L." The Huntington Building's main lobby connects to a 40,000-square-foot retail arcade, designed to combine old-world charm with modern convenience.

 

The Huntington Building earned the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance as a result of numerous upgrades and retrofits, some of them made in 1988 during a $20 million renovation and others made more recently. The upgrades include the installation of 4,100 double-glazed thermal pane windows, the installation of high-efficiency light fixtures and lamps, and modifications to the building's electrical distribution system, which increased efficiency, capacity, and safety.

 

Climate control systems at the Huntington Building were upgraded as well, with improvements including extensive repair and refurbishment of radiant heating equipment, the addition of a cooling tower and condenser water loop, and the replacement of aging window units with a new, water-cooled HVAC system that also introduces healthful outside air to the building's tenant spaces.
