The Grand Baldwin, a landmark structure in Cincinnati, is not only known for its elegance but also its superior energy efficiency.
ENERGY STAR certification for the Grand Baldwin required extensive retrofitting of the building lighting and HVAC infrastructure. In 2004, 100% of the existing T-12 fluorescent lamps were replaced with T-8 lamps and incandescent bulbs were replaced with high-efficiency compact fluorescent lamps. In 2006, Yaskawa variable frequency drives were installed on the building's two cooling towers. In 2007, Yaskawa variable frequency drives were installed on all seventeen air handler units. Additionally, the building uses an energy management system to monitor energy demand and reduce it where possible by establishing equipment operation times so that there is an optimal balance between energy savings and tenant needs.
