Owned by South College Street LLC and managed by Foundry Commercial, Charlotte Plaza is a 27-story, more than 625,000-square-foot office tower in the Overstreet Mall section of uptown Charlotte. Charlotte Plaza earned the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance as a result of active energy management practices and select energy-saving infrastructure retrofits. These infrastructure updates include the replacement of incandescent lights throughout the building with high-efficiency compact fluorescent lamps. Another key energy-saving strategy that helped the building earn ENERGY STAR certification is the active use of a digital building automation system to monitor and optimize building energy consumption.
Designed by HLM Design and JPJ Architects, Inc., and completed in 1981, Charlotte Plaza is a striking element of the Charlotte skyline. Most distinctively, the exterior is marked by an inverted triangle "windowpane" design set off by contrasting silver and black reflective glass; the black elements serve as "framing" at the building corners. Tenant amenities include a landscaped park setting, a fountain area with seating, a multi-story interior lobby finished in fine marble, and an attached parking structure. The top floor of Charlotte Plaza also includes a fine dining restaurant that showcases the aerial views of Charlotte from the 27th floor.
