The Hillsborough County Extension Service is an educational service provided by both the University of Florida and Hillsborough County. It provides information to the public through workshops, publications, and mass media. The transfer of knowledge from the university to people throughout the state is facilitated by extension faculty located in each of Florida's 67 counties. This partnership between counties and the university is the heart of the County Extension Service mission and enables the university to extend its knowledge base to each community. The driving force for these information delivery methods are the needs of citizens in each county. County extension faculty develops educational programs based on issues determined by their urban and commercial customers or citizens. These priority issues form the basis for major educational programs, which are conducted statewide.
In 2002 the facility went through a complete lighting retrofit utilizing high efficiency fluorescent lamps and compact fluorescents where applicable. The heating, ventilating, and air conditioning system was replaced using high efficiency systems with a variable air volume system properly balanced for control. The Extension Service also promotes energy efficiency through its employees and workshops.
