building

The Larimer County Courthouse Office building is a 5 story, 150,000 square foot multi-use government facility, used for a variety of services. The building also hosts the Information Technology Data Center. A 25 kW solar photovoltatic system was installed in 2010. Four roof top air handling units supply 127 VAV (variable air volume) zones for interior comfort control. Two hot water boilers supply heat for the exterior fan-powered VAV boxes. A separate, smaller roof top unit was installed in 2010 to support the three large after-hours conference rooms to allow the rest of the building HVAC systems to shut down in order to save energy. The building was retrofitted with electricty meters on each floor for both lighting and plug use. The meter data was used to “challenge” the occupants to reduce their energy use by setting goals and showing improvements.
