The William Barnhart Center is located in Beaverton, Oregon, a suburb of the Greater Portland metropolitan area. Built in 1972, with more than 200,000 gross square feet, the design consists of a two-story, concrete, tilt-up office building. Fully occupied by Wells Fargo Bank, the building houses Wells Fargo's credit card and home mortgage customer service and collections call center.
The energy management team of William Barnhart Center first initiated and rolled out its energy conservation plan in 2003. All light fixtures were retrofitted with T-8 lamps and electronic ballasts; building automation controls were implemented; a new high-efficiency cooling tower was installed with variable frequency drive (VFD) motors; and outdated kitchen appliances in the employee cafeteria were replaced with new energy efficient models. From 2003 to 2011, William Barnhart Center achieved a 16 percent reduction in energy consumption.
