Cambridge Savings Bank - Harvard
1374 Massachusetts Avenue
Cambridge, MA 02138
The Cambridge Savings Bank (CSB) Headquarters is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in the heart of historic Harvard Square. The original building was built in 1923 and has been upgraded several times, most recently with a top-to-bottom renovation in 2000. Upgrades with a payback of up to 6 years are usually considered acceptable. These have included high-efficiency lighting, modular boilers, power factor control, and new rooftop units. Other technologies evaluated have included LED sign lighting and photovoltaic roofing materials.
An Energy Awareness program has been a key part of Cambridge Savings' energy management strategy. The "Conservation Saves Bucks" program combines employee education with contests and rewards. The result has been a 23-percent reduction in energy usage over a 3-year period. Just as important, energy-saving practices have become imbedded in the corporate culture. It has become standard procedure for employees to shut off lights, computers, and other equipment when they leave their office or a conference room.
CSB continually works with its mechanical contractors to make sure systems such as heating, air conditioning, and electric are operating as efficiently as possible. CSB plans to make additional investments to further improve energy performance. Facilities staff and consultants perform quarterly audits of various facilities to monitor performance and highlight opportunities for improvement.
Cambridge Savings Bank is a full-service financial institution with just under $2 billion in assets. Based in Cambridge, MA, the bank has 15 Banking Centers in Greater Boston.
Seven of Cambridge Savings' Banking Centers have earned the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance. CSB was recognized as an ENERGY STAR Leader in November 2004.
In May 2005, CSB was recognized by the EPA's New England Regional Office for its environmental stewardship with an Environmental Merit Award.
"I am proud of our employees, who embraced our energy-saving initiatives as part of our culture, seeing the value they have to the environment and to our community. We all view this as a long-term program and an extension of our core philosophy of supporting the communities that we serve."-- Kevin Fitzgerald, President, Cambridge Savings Bank
