Lansing Central School District is a suburban public school located in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. Raymond C. Buckley Elementary School is located at 284 Ridge Road, Lansing, NY. It houses a Head Start program and serves students grades K through 4.

The original two-story structure was constructed in 1959. In 1997 a two-story addition was built to increase the facility area to approximately 92,335-square-feet of total space. The building is masonry construction with steel framing. The facility includes a gymnasium, cafeteria, computer labs, and kitchen in addition to various classrooms. The building also houses the District Offices.

Major improvements began in 1997 with a two-story addition that allowed for an increase in classroom spaces, room for music and art rooms and an area for the District Offices. This capital project included the conversion from steam to hot water heating systems throughout the entire facility. Roof top units and classroom univents combined with the addition of an energy management system allowed for greater control of individual areas. The entire exterior three-inch steel skin of the building was replaced with well-insulated block and masonry, which greatly reduced heat loss through the walls. All the windows were then replaced with high efficiency, low-e thermopane units. This energy-focused construction had a major impact on decreased consumption of electric and natural gas throughout the building.

Recent renovations include a partial roof replacement in 2008 which also allowed for a significant increase in the insulation R-factor under the new membrane. By 2009, the district entered into an Energy Performance Contract that took energy conservation to another level. All interior lighting was converted to T-8 lamps with electronic ballasts. Additional measures included the installation of two new Viessmann boilers with a 98% efficiency rating, another upgrade to the EMS, more insulation along the wall headers, window film and weather-stripping on exterior doors and replacement of all motors rated for 5 hp or more with variable speed energy efficient models.

The Lansing community prides itself on its commitment to renewable energy sources and continued conservation measures implemented within the school buildings. The most recent energy improvements have decreased electric consumption by more than 63,000 kWh and natural gas by 8,300 therms annually. These savings reflect the difference between pre-construction in 2009 and post-construction in 2011.

EPA ENERGY STAR Certification has helped to validate the initiatives undertaken since 1997. It also reinforces the need to continue moving forward with energy conservation measures and innovation.
