Kernersville Middle achieved superior energy performance by adhering to the Energy Guidelines established by the Winston Salem Forsyth County Schools. The staff members at Kernersville Middle are committed to being good stewards of its resources and they give daily attention to making sure energy is not wasted. Lighting is turned off in unoccupied spaces and electronic equipment is turned off when not in use. The HVAC is controlled by an energy management control system and is monitored for efficiency. The custodial staff members also play an important role by performing nightly shut-down inspections to make sure items are not left on and wasting energy. Kernersville Middle has found that making intelligent energy decisions provides the potential for immediate payoff, in addition to long-term environmental benefits.
