At Heritage Elementary School, the dedication to education and the behavioral growth of students runs parallel to Red Clay Consolidated School District's goal of creating districtwide K-5 schools.  To support this mission, the district invested 18 months in a comprehensive strategic planning process to evaluate existing schools, including Heritage Elementary School, to determine the future educational needs of each facility.  The school board, administration, and community jointly recommended certain facility upgrades for Heritage.

The district, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2007, invested 4.5 million dollars in renovations.  Three areas were targeted for improvement:  1) repairs to existing heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems; 2) construction of additional classrooms and complete upgrades to library and lavatory facilities; and 3) upgrades to interior doors and finishes, replacement of plumbing fixtures, and additional miscellaneous needs.

ENERGY STAR Guidelines for Energy Management were followed throughout the design and procurement of these major capital projects.  As a result, the school earned the ENERGY STAR in 2008 for superior energy efficiency.  Data compiled through Portfolio Manager help school officials ensure that these improvements maximize the use of their energy resources

  • Testimonial:

This year, Heritage Elementary earned the ENERGY STAR because we met the 75th or higher percentile rating for energy efficiency in our building.  This award is the direct result of our student and staff's efforts to cut down on energy consumption by closing doors, shutting off lights and computers, and conserving water.  Congratulations to the Heritage students and staff for being conscientious consumers of energy in our building!
