Tri-County Electric Cooperative is an electric distribution cooperative headquartered in Rushford, MN. Extensive planning aided in the construction of a headquarters that is designed to help save on the cost of day-to-day operations. As visitors walk through our headquarters, they can see several features designed with sound foresight, energy efficiency, the environment, and advancing our technology capabilities in mind.

Energy efficiency measures taken into consideration include:
-- Land position: The building is positioned to maximize the use of natural lighting. It allows for passive solar gain from the south. Plus, the service center blocks winter's northwest winds.
Concrete pavement: The pavement on the grounds is concrete. Choosing concrete instead of asphalt helps reduce heat island effect.
Concrete tip-up construction: The service center was built using insulated concrete tip-up panels.
Task lighting: Looking in office areas, you'll see lighting placed directly over work spaces, where you need it most.
Type of lighting: Offices and hallways are lit using T5 fluorescent lamps.
Lighting controls: Dual-sensing occupancy sensors are used in office areas, centralized printing stations, and other locations where the capabilities work best. Both the occupancy sensors and manual switches are programmed to automatically turn off at a particular time of day.
Centralized printing stations: Instead of individual printers at each workstation, centralized stations allow several individuals to use a single printer.
Reflective roof: The roof is white and designed to reflect sunlight to help reduce summer cooling costs.
Ground-source heat pump: The office uses a ground-source heat pump (geothermal), which uses renewable energy from the earth for heating and cooling.
-- Temperature controls system: The heating and cooling systems are mechanically controlled to turn up and down at certain times of the day to allow for great efficiency.
