One of the goals for Henry County Public Schools (HCPS) is to reduce energy usage and ensure efficient and effective stewardship of public resources without impacting the educational environment. The energy education program began in 2009, when the district?s superintendent, along with the Henry County Public School Board, partnered with Energy Education, now known as Cenergistic, from Dallas, TX. In 2012, HCPS became an ENERGY STAR partner. Through this partnership, HCPS accessed ENERGY STAR resources and incorporated new technologies into HVAC improvement and lighting retrofit projects planned and implemented at Magna Vista High School. These upgrades, combined with the Cenergistic partnership, set the stage for the school to earn the ENERGY STAR in 2012. Efficient building systems combined with the building occupants? efforts to reduce daily energy use resulted in a climate for success. At Magna Vista High School, students, faculty, and staff all do their part to help the environment by taking individual action to reduce energy use. The teamwork and attention to detail are a major factor in keeping energy use to a minimum.

The district invested $5 million in energy efficiency improvements for Magna Vista High School. The improvement project focused on two areas: HVAC and lighting.

Implementing the organizational behavior-based Transformational Energy Management? process developed by Cenergistic has significantly reduced the organization?s energy consumption compared to a pre-program baseline. Cenergistic?s staff of conservation specialists provides ongoing on-site training and oversight to ensure savings are maximized. The Energy Specialist provides bi-annual updates to the School Board and Superintendent, monthly updates to the school?s administration, teachers and staff. A press release was distributed to honor the ENERGY STAR certified school.

?Magna Vista High School is the perfect example of how energy use reductions can occur in older facilities when technology is properly chosen, installed and operated by conscientious, knowledgeable energy users.?
