Located in Paragon, IN, the first school serving the area was held in a house beginning in 1857. Several years later, a brick school was built in 1866 at a cost of $2,500. The first iteration of the  Paragon School was built at the turn of the century in 1900 by Wesley Potter and served first- through twelfth-grade students. It was located at the north end of Main Street and included 10 classrooms, an office, and a library. In 1920, Paragon School expanded by three classrooms and added an auditorium, cloak hall, clinic, and gymnasium.

In 1956, the school consolidated with the Metropolitan School District (MSD) of Martinsville. By this time, the school functioned as an elementary school, serving grades 1 through 6. Later, the old school was torn down, and the present school building was constructed at a cost of $850,900. In 1975, the sixth grade was moved to West Middle School in Martinsville. Presently, Paragon School is a K-5 school with a student population that increases annually.

"The energy saving initiative accelerated an awareness in our school community to be more protective of our resources. Changing habits to reduce energy consumption is easier when efforts are substantiated by improved data. It helps us recognize that if everyone does something small, a significant improvement is possible."

-- Dru Voiles, Principal, Paragon Elementary
