AstraZeneca's U.S. supply and manufacturing division, located in Newark, Delaware, opened in 1971. One of the first products produced at this facility was the popular antacid Mylanta. This facility houses some of the most advanced pharmaceutical production and technical support in the nation.

Products formulated and packaged at this location include cardiovascular, oncology, infection, respiratory, gastrointestinal, anesthetics, and neuroscience treatments. The supply facility also serves as a major distribution center, shipping 56 million units of product each year.

The most well-known products produced here are SEROQUEL? (quetiapine fumarate), ARIMIDEX? (anastrozole), and MERREM? I.V. (meropenem for injection).

The commitment to modernization and expansion at this facility has been ongoing. After nearly three decades, this 145-acre site has close to 650,000 square feet of facilities. The Newark Supply Site is a designated Foreign Trade Zone.

The Newark Supply Site has worked to reduce energy consumption through a number of energy efficiency projects.  One example is the lighting project where energy-efficient light bulbs have been installed in 239 fixtures, resulting in a reduction in energy consumption of more than 600,000 kilowatt hours. In another initiative, the site is reusing heat from the boiler blowdown system saving the site an estimated 507,429 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

The Newark Supply Site was awarded the 2008 ENERGY STAR.
