CEMEX is a global building materials company that provides cement, ready-mix concrete and aggregates. The Miami cement plant has continuously produced Portland and masonry cements since 1958. The plant produces more than 1 million tons of cement annually for use in area homes, roads, schools and businesses in Florida. The Miami cement plant employs approximately 125 local men and women and engaging with numerous vendors throughout the state.
Throughout the year, the Miami cement plant puts into practice the energy-efficiency principles established by the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Guidelines for Energy Management. The plant implemented energy conservation and monitoring technologies, promoted energy-efficiency awareness among employees and completed energy-reduction projects. The plant is very proud of the work it has done to attain ENERGY STAR® certification.
CEMEX continuously improves operation and efficiency through the implementation of the CEMEX Energy Policy and comprehensive energy management program. This is accomplished by optimizing equipment operating time through automation, providing operators with real-time energy information, conducting process audits, and installing more efficient equipment. The Miami cement plant burns alternative fuels as a means of reducing greenhouse gases and replacing traditional fuels like coal with carbon neutral alternatives and renewable fuel sources.
