Boehringer Ingelheim Roxane, Inc. (BIRI) is the manufacturing arm of Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation. It functions as a primary site for prescription and multi-source pharmaceutical manufacturing in North America for Boehringer Ingelheim.  In addition, BIRI is one of Boehringer Ingelheim's two product launch sites.  Roxane Laboratories, Inc. is the research, development, sales, and marketing arm of the business. It offers development services for new products and formulas, oversees the manufacturing process for its customers, and develops analytical test methods for potential new products.

 

Acquired in 1978, BIRI is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. It has approximately 1,000 employees that work in a modern 1,000,000 square foot laboratory, manufacturing, and office complex on 72 acres.  Operations occupy the largest portion of the facility with departments that include manufacturing, liquids and solids packaging, distribution, maintenance, operations, materials management, labeling, engineering, and management of products.

 

BIRI makes energy and environmental impact a critical component to each of our projects.  Examples include: use of storm water for site irrigation reduces water consumption and storm sewer volume, installation of variable frequency drives to reduce power usage on rotating equipment, installing economizers on steam boilers, optimizing the chilled water plant, and re-lamping the warehouse and utilizing occupancy sensors to reduce wasted lighting.

 

Overall, BIRI has reduced our electricity usage by over 5.6-million kilowatt-hours since 2007 while producing 16% more product. 

 

BIRI earned the ENERGY STAR for the first time in 2009.
