In 2000, ExxonMobil Corporation developed its Global Energy Management System (G-EMS) to focus on conserving energy. Since then, the Baton Rouge Refinery has implemented numerous elements of the G-EMS system such as heat exchanger monitoring and cleaning, a steam trap and steam leak repair programs, and furnace air pre-heater upgrades to generate energy savings.
The ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refinery was first awarded the ENERGY STAR for plants in 2007. Overall, the Baton Rouge Refinery has reduced energy intensity by 10% from 2000 to 2007. This has created enough energy savings to supply 120,000
