Italcementi Group operates in the USA, Canada, and Puerto Rico through Essroc. Set up in 1866 as Coplay Cement, the company started producing portland cement in 1872 in Nazareth, PA. In 1978 Ciments Francais rebuilt the company's Nazareth, PA production center and in 1992, Italcementi Group purchased controlling interest in Ciments Français.
With an annual cement production capacity of 1.3 million tons, the Nazareth site is an important asset in Essroc. The Nazareth site includes 3 plants, a quarry, and packing facility. The site produces 12 different types of cement. The 3 plants are connected by one 1.7 mile underground and aboveground long belt conveyor that transports limestone between the quarry and the main plant and clinker between the main plant and the grinding facility.
The Italcementi Group’s vision is to be a world class local business building a better and sustainable future for all stakeholders. The Group believes that energy management systems enable companies to achieve continual improvement in plant energy performance.
Energy efficiency is one of the important aspects of Essroc’s sustainable development goals. Earning ENERGY STAR certification highlights Nazareth’s improvement in its energy performance by managing energy strategically across the entire organization and by making cost-effective improvements to the plant.
Essroc's Nazareth plant was ENERGY STAR certified for the first time in 2014.
