It all began with an idea born out of respect for American ingenuity and the abilities of the
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK), in
This $5 billion automotive complex embodies the winning spirit and innovative thinking that creates Toyota Avalon, Camry/Camry Hybrid, Camry Solara and convertible, and the Venza crossover vehicle.
This technically advanced, 7.92 million sq. ft. manufacturing complex has infused new life into the commonwealth of Kentucky by creating over 20,000 jobs, including those at TMMK and throughout our growing community of suppliers. The result has been success and growth beyond our most ambitious expectations.
TMMK operates a comprehensive energy management program based on the Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing North America, Inc. (TEMA) model. TMMK is a true leader in the TEMA energy management program. All the ENERGY STAR tools are utilized in identifying the time of day and volume of energy consumption, recognizing opportunities for reduction and implementing them. TMMK has proved over and over again that aggressive energy reduction goals can be achieved by implementing a combination of operational changes and engineering solutions.
TMMK benchmarks energy consumption against the rest of the industry using the ENERGY STAR automobile assembly Energy Performance Indicator (EPI). The results have been a reduction in energy consumption per vehicle from from 6.3 MMBtu per vehicle in 2004 to less than 4.53 MMBtu per vehicle in 2008 for Plant 2. Although significant design differences exist between the manufacturing lines, TMMK has proven a strong energy management program will result in significant energy reductions regardless of the equipment in use.
TMMK Plant 2 first earned the ENERGY STAR in 2006.
