The Demopolis cement manufacturing facility has been a cornerstone in the local and regional area for more than a century. Today, CEMEX Demopolis employs around 100 local men and women and provides an annual payroll of about $6.5 million. In addition to the more than $700,000 in local and county taxes, the plant provides an infusion of economic support to the area. It does approximately $30 million worth of business annually with local suppliers, contractors and companies.
The original plant began operation in 1901 and was rebuilt in the mid 1970s. New quarry operations began in the early 1990s and the existing quarry is in the current process of being restored to natural wildlife conditions. Demopolis cement is used in everything from the roads Alabamians drive on to work, to the schools where their children attend classes, to the hospital or government buildings serving their communities.

? Upgrade existing equipment to reduce energy and environmental emissions
? Finish Mills power consumption improvement
? Increase the use of authorized alternative fuels
? Reduce air infiltration in raw material grinding and kiln systems
? Improve kiln efficiency through the reduction of false air and coordinating other operational methods
? Shut off unloaded equipment automatically
As a result of the above-mentioned energy conservation measures, the plant has been able to save 66,630 MMBTU of thermal energy and 5.6 Million of kWh of electrical energy.
