Since beginning production in 2001, Honda Manufacturing of
Honda Manufacturing of Alabama (HMA) earned EPA's Energy Star Award for the first time in 2006. HMA is Honda's largest light truck production facility with an annual capacity of more than 300,000 vehicles and V-6 engines. The $1.4 billion manufacturing facility in
HMA's flexible manufacturing system allows our 4,500 associates the ability to build multiple vehicle models on the same assembly line. HMA is the sole production source of the popular Odyssey minivan, the Pilot sport utility vehicle and the V-6 engines that power both vehicles. In early 2009, the company also will become the sole production source of the innovative Honda Ridgeline pickup truck.
Aggressive efforts at HMA have improved overall energy efficiency by more than 20% over the last three years, resulting in a reduction of nearly 8,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually. Key energy reduction activities have included enhancements of HVAC controls in body coating operations and reduction of base energy consumption during non-production periods.
HMA incorporates Honda's global vision of providing high quality products at a reasonable price. We also share Honda's global leadership in environmental stewardship. Our company-wide commitment to the principle of "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle" established HMA as a Zero Landfill Facility upon inception in 2001, which means our production facility sends nothing to a landfill.
