Honda of America Mfg.’s auto plant in East Liberty, Ohio, (ELP) that builds the segment-leading Honda CR-V compact sport-utility vehicle (SUV) and the Acura RDX luxury SUV has earned its 10th consecutive ENERGY STAR certification in 2015.
Established in 1989, ELP produces 240,000 vehicles annually. The 2.8-million square-foot facility is home to 2,400 associates.
ELP benefits from the real-time monitoring system in place at the Marysville Auto Plant that associates use to identify areas where energy use can be eliminated during non-use periods. In 2013, ELP created a new on-site consolidation center for the efficient distribution of parts throughout the plant. The consolidation center saved the use of 483,000 gallons of fuel from delivery trucks and eliminated 4.915 metric tons of CO2.
The East Liberty plant also installed new LED lighting and also began replacing its 1350-ton chillers with high-efficiency units.
