CEMEX is a global building materials company that provides cement, ready-mix concrete and aggregates. The Brooksville South cement plant has continuously produced Portland cement since 1983. The Brooksville quarry has been operating since 1929. The aggregates quarry processes over 4 million tons of aggregates and the cement plant has the capacity to produce approximately 2 million tons of cement annually for use in building local homes, roads, schools, businesses and hospitals. The Brooksville operations employs approximately 260 local men and women and doing business with numerous vendors throughout the state.
Throughout the year, the Brooksville South cement plant puts into practice the energy-efficiency principles established by the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Guidelines for Energy Management. The plant implemented energy conservation and monitoring technologies, promoted energy-efficiency awareness among employees and completed energy-reduction projects. The plant is very proud of the work it has done to attain ENERGY STAR® certification.
CEMEX continuously improves operation and efficiency through the implementation of the CEMEX Energy Policy and comprehensive energy management program. This is accomplished by optimizing equipment operating time through automation, providing operators with real-time energy information, conducting process audits, and installing more efficient equipment. The Brooksville South cement plant burns alternative fuels and replaces traditional fuels like coal with carbon neutral alternatives and renewable fuel sources.
