The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government is the municipal entity at the heart of Kentucky's Bluegrass Region.  The county is defined by 283 square miles of gentle rolling plateau and is home to a population of approximately 280,000.  In order to preserve its unique cultural heritage and quality of life, LFUCG recognizes that the City of Lexington must be a sustainable community.  Pursuant to Executive Order 2009-04, LFUCG is taking the ENERGY STAR Challenge to improve the energy efficiency of its buildings by 10% or more and to encourage the community to do the same.

LFUCG is developing an energy awareness campaign to educate the community about the benefits of energy efficiency.  The ENERGY STAR logo and ENERGY STAR resources will play a prominent role on the city's web pages and at the public events, conferences and workshops allied with this initiative.

LFUCG initiated a dedicated energy management program in 2009 based on ENERGY STAR guidelines for energy management.  LFUCG will publicize its success and share its experience using tools like Portfolio Manager and Target Finder in its efforts to encourage local business, non-profit and educational institutions to take the ENERGY STAR Challenge.
