The State of Illinois is committed to reducing state energy use 10% by 2012. Governor Rod Blagojevich convened the Illinois Green Government Council with a mandate to promote energy efficiency practices within state facilities. To support EPA's ENERGY STAR Challenge, Illinois will:

  • Train the State's facility managers to use ENERGY STAR tools to help state organizations measure their energy use and identify buildings with the greatest opportunity for improvement;
  • Measure the energy efficiency of state facilities using EPA's national energy performance rating system,
  • Promote the financial and environmental benefits of energy efficiency to mayors of Illinois Main Street Communities; and
  • Recognize organizations in Illinois that achieve energy efficiency improvements of 10 percent or more.
