The Whitley County School District, established in 1818, serves students in preschool through grade 12. The schools include one primary, one intermediate, five elementary, one middle, one high and one alternative school. Our goal is to provide services that enhance and support student achievement in a safe, secure and nurturing environment for teaching and learning. Courtney D. Lewis has been hired for the position of Energy Manager for Whitley County and Corbin Independent Schools; she joins 34 Energy Managers across the Commonwealth that will create and implement energy efficiency practices. The jobs are funded in part through the School Energy Managers Project (SEMP), a partnership of the Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA) and the Kentucky Department of Energy Development and Independence (DEDI). Energy managers are employed by a lead agency, but work in all partnering districts.

The Whitley County School District uses ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, as well as other online calculators, tools and resources. ENERGY STAR online training and webinars are also included in our practices. ENERGY STAR posters, handouts, and guides are used to promote ENERGY STAR to teachers and students as a favorable energy efficiency and conservation resource.

ENERGY STAR posters, guides, publications and pamphlets are placed around the buildings learning resources.. Lewis also utilizes "A Guide to Energy-Efficient Heating and Cooling", "Bring Your Green to Work", the Lorax Activity Book, and the "Quick List of ENERGY STAR Resources for Buildings", along with many more free ENERGY STAR publications, at every Energy Team meeting she conducts.
