Palomar Pomerado Health (PPH) is the largest healtcare district in California, serving communities in an 850-aquare-mile area and a trauma denter that covers more than 2200 square miles of South Riverside and North San Diego Counties.  In addition to two existing hospitals, and a third scheduled to open in 2012, Palomar Pomerado Health offers home health care, surgery, skilled mursing, ambularory care, behavioral health services, wound care, and community health education programs.

Our overall mission at PPH to heal, comfort, and promote health in the communities we serve is complemented by our Environmental Mission Statement to creat a sustainable healing environment that comforts and promotes health by honoring the relationship of the individual to the environment.  We have made a commitment and we are actively working to help make the connection between human health and the environment.

Energy Management is an important and integral part of our comprehensive PPH Sustainability Plans.  Becoming an ENERGY STAR partner is a great beginning for us.  We are using the EPA ENERGY STAR resources to benchmark and track our energy use, as well as the financial and environmental impacts to our health system and our communities at large.  We are embarking on the Healthcare Energy Efficiency Program (HEEP) with our local service provider, SDG&E, in order to first find efficiencies and savings.  We will be combining this "efficiency first" effort with innovative education & outreach to our staff and communities.  And we will also be pursuing alternative means of energy generation.

Partnership with ENERGY STAR and participating in the ENERGY STAR Challenge to reduce our energy use by 10% will provide PPH a path to successful energy conservation, as well as to demonstrate our dedication to enhancing and creating that very real connection between human health and the environment.
