Constructed in 2012 and located within the South Lake Union neighborhood in Seattle, Wash., the Union at South Lake Union is a 285-unit, Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certified multifamily community. The property is owned by Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association-College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA) and managed by Pinnacle Property Management.  In June 2015, after the property was acquired by TIAA, the property management team at the Union at South Lake Union began monitoring the energy performance of the common areas using EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager®. The team actively works to ensure energy efficient building operations, which has led to superior energy performance.

Notable energy-efficient elements installed at the property include fluorescent lighting, occupancy sensor controls, and programmable thermostats to optimize common area temperature settings.

TIAA is an eight-time ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award winner whose Global Real Estate Sustainability Initiative (GRESI) reflects the firm’s strong commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.
