Mission’s goal was to implement low-cost/no-cost Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) by utilizing the expertise of an energy reduction consultant, Ridgecrest Energy Advisors, that specializes in identifying and implementing such measures. While our building has been well-maintained and operated, Ridgecrest was able to:

-- Implement sophisticated programming of our existing energy management control systems, i.e., our Building Automation System (BAS), to optimize operations while eliminating waste associated with our equipment and energy systems. This required installation of select temperature, relative humidity, and other sensors for use in polling current conditions used for making instantaneous adjustments to setpoints without compromising comfort or indoor air quality.

-- Optimize central cooling and heating systems using temperature resets, equipment staging, and enhanced system pump control.

-- Identify and repair or replace faulty controls that were affecting performance as well as efficiency.n

-- Establish zone temperature setback schedules programmed to minimize HVAC costs in unoccupied areas of the hospital which are not used 24/7.

-- Enhance control of the air distribution systems throughout the facility. This was achieved by utilizing the existing BAS to more precisely control temperature ranges throughout the facility. The result was more uniform temperatures throughout and reduction in comfort-related complaints.

-- Reduce unnecessary reheating of supply air. Major energy savings were achieved by reducing the amount of cooling and then re-heating of supply air from Air Handling Units (AHUs) by more precisely controlling supply air temperature to efficiently meet each zone’s comfort requirements throughout the year.

-- Improve operation of existing Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) on fans and pumps by automatically resetting key control setpoints based on instantaneous air or water volume requirements.

-- Increase the amount of “free cooling” in “shoulder months” by optimizing economizer control at AHUs.
