Located located at 801 9th Street NW in Washington, D.C., the United States Mint Headquarters Building is an eight-story, more than 238,000-square-foot facility. The majority of the building is occupied by the U.S. Mint as office space; it also has a single restaurant sub-tenant located at the first floor. The rest of the first floor space consists of the lobby, management offices, a loading dock, and an office space. The eighth floor includes two private terraces and a penthouse that contains the central plant. The garage and loading dock are accessible from I Street in downtown Washington.
The property has undergone a number of retrofits and upgrades to improve energy efficiency. These changes have included implementing lighting upgrades (to lower wattage fluorescent fixtures), installing induction light fixtures in the parking garage, and installing Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) on all major HVAC equipment. Following the successful implementation of these improvements, the property's management team watched the building's ENERGY STAR score improve. The building also obtained LEED Gold for Existing Buildings in 2012.
