Constructed in 1989 as a single-floor facility, McKee Elementary has reduced energy use almost every year since 2001-2002. This 63,487-square-foot school has a dual-temperature system feeding air handling units for the administration, media center, cafeteria, and multipurpose area. The classroom areas are heated and cooled by fan-coil units.
Lighting was designed with dual switching that shifts between two sets of two bulbs in four-bulb fixtures. The media center has a clerestory for additional daylighting.
McKee Elementary's energy use has declined in all but one of the last 9 years. In 2009-2010, the facility operated at 52,800 BTUs per square foot. This includes all electrical use on the site. We continue to look for ways to improve energy efficiency.
