Lincoln Heights, an elementary school built in 2002, has 91,728 square feet. It includes a two-story classroom wing and a one-story wing with the administration, cafeteria-kitchen, multi-purpose/gym, and the media center.
The mechanical system is a four-pipe system with a single air-cooled chiller, two asymmetrical-sized condensing boilers, and seven indoor variable-volume air-handling units.
Windows are arranged to allow natural light, but we did not take credit for this in the lighting scheme. Four-tube fixtures with inboard and outboard switching are used in the classrooms. T-8 bulbs are used to improve energy efficiency.
Energy use has been up and down within a narrow range for the most part. Since 2008-2009, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education has made it a practice to monitor energy use and investigate schools where energy usage fluctuates. Lincoln Heights has been one of our consistent performers.
We are happy that the staff and students support this initiative with their efforts to keep the facility a superior energy performer.
