Westwood of Lisle earned the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance as a result of a series of infrastructure retrofits and improvements to building management practices. For instance, lighting retrofits were instituted, including replacing incandescent bulbs with high-efficiency fluorescent lamps and installing occupancy sensors in common areas and select tenant areas (such as conference rooms). In addition, a new building management system gave property management the ability to centrally control a number of different energy-consuming infrastructure elements. As another example, common area lighting shut-down times are set earlier--reducing the amount of unnecessary lighting--while HVAC hours and settings are centrally controlled to reduce unnecessary heating and cooling of tenant space outside of normal occupancy hours.
