The school community at Linden Hill Elementary dedicates itself to educating and nurturing all children in a manner that values individual differences and focuses on the students strengths.  Red Clay Consolidated School District, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2007, completed a comprehensive strategic planning process involving community and school staff input to identify current facility problems and project future needs.  To move toward districtwide K-5 elementary schools and act on the results of this assessment, specific recommendations were developed for Linden Hill Elementary School.

The district invested 4.5 million dollars in renovations for Linden Hill.  Three major project areas were targeted:  1) the installation of an air-conditioning system and upgrades to heating and ventilation systems; 2) construction of new classrooms and a more spacious and modern library; and  3) electrical repairs, lighting replacement, fire alarm installation, and necessary upgrades to rest rooms. 

ENERGY STAR Guidelines for Energy Management were followed throughout the design and procurement of these major capital projects.  As a result, the school earned the ENERGY STAR in 2008 for superior energy efficiency.  Data compiled through Portfolio Manager help school officials ensure that these improvements maximize the use of their energy resources.

  • Share the "Statement of Energy Performance: Facility Summary" from ENERGY STAR's Portfolio Manager with the school community.

  • Publish articles in the local media and school newsletter, and post information on the school's Web site.

  • Provide resources and data to teachers and students for use with class projects.
