Young students attending Warner Elementary School and Kindergarten Center come early to foster a love for learning.  Red Clay Consolidated School District conducted a comprehensive evaluation of Warner, as well as its other schools, to ensure that it will continue to be a place where children get a strong educational start.  By assessing the existing building conditions and future educational needs of the facility, the district determined that Warner needed interior improvements.

The district invested a total of 8 million dollars for necessary facility improvements at Warner Elementary School.  Work fell into several broad categories:  1) additions and renovations to classrooms, as well as library and building upgrades to accommodate the disabled; 2) renovations of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems; 3) electrical system renovations, including technological, safety, security, and communication systems upgrades; 4) plumbing renovations; 5) replacement or repair of doors, interior finishes, elevator, flooring, chalkboards, cabinetry, and gym equipment; and 6) repairs and upgrades to the building exterior, roofing, and paving, as well as other miscellaneous improvements.

ENERGY STAR Guidelines for Energy Management were followed throughout the design and procurement phases of these major capital projects.  As a result, the school earned the ENERGY STAR in 2008 for superior energy efficiency.  Data compiled through Portfolio Manager help school officials ensure that these improvements maximize the use of their energy resources.

  • Share the "Statement of Energy Performance: Facility Summary" from ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager with the school community.

  • Publish articles in the local media and school newsletter, and post on the school's Web site.

  • Provide resources and data to teachers and students for use with class projects.

  • Present at faculty, parent, and school board meetings.
