Elkhorn Crossing School
2001 Frankfort Pike
Georgetown, KY 40324
Map It!

Elkhorn Crossing, constructed in 2009-2010, is held as an example of transforming education in Kentucky by the Governor of Kentucky and the Department of Education Commissioner. The school provides a new model for educating students in Kentucky, organized in career clusters, with a project-based learning lab integrated with core courses such as math, science, and English. The teachers in these learning villages collaborate in order to prepare students for their college career or the workplace.

The school was designed with energy efficiency in mind. The building envelope features Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) exterior walls, which provide a comfortable indoor environment for students, teachers, and staff members. Elkhorn Crossing School uses a variable refrigerant volume (VRV) heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system that is more efficient that a regular heat pump system. The design for the building allows for daylighting throughout the school, which also encourages a better learning environment for its students.

Featured on a program on August 17, 2010 in which the state Governor and education officials discussed the future of education in Kentucky.

Won the Associated General Contractors (AGC) award for a building between $10 million and $15 million in the state of Kentucky in 2010.
