All ENERGY STAR product brand owner partners are required to report annually their certified product unit shipment data. EPA collects unit shipment data to determine the market penetration of ENERGY STAR products and evaluate the overall performance of the program. The data collection deadline is March 1 of each year. Failure to submit unit shipment data by the March 1 deadline will result in the removal of the partner's certified products from the certified products list on the ENERGY STAR website, and its name from the partner list. Partners that still have not submitted their unit shipment data by May 1 may no longer certify additional models as ENERGY STAR.
The reporting process begins in January and the submittal deadline is March 1 of each year. In January, all partners' primary and secondary contacts will receive a data collection letter and product submittal form. The letter will outline the data submittal requirements and process. All letters and forms are also available to view and download online. A detailed timeline (130KB) of the 2016 process is also available for your reference.
EPA partners are required to submit actual US shipment data for only ENERGY STAR certified products that were shipped from January 1–December 31, 2016. Estimates of shipments and data on shipments outside of the US will not be accepted. If no ENERGY STAR certified units were shipped in 2016, partners still must return a data collection form indicating that no ENERGY STAR certified products were shipped. A list of frequently asked questions and answers from EPA about the reporting requirements is also available for reference.
EPA would like to thank the following industry associations for assisting with the 2016 collection effort. Each of these associations provides a valuable service for their members and in some cases, non-members, by collecting the data and aggregating it for submission to EPA.
All correspondence from EPA will be sent via email to all primary and secondary contacts. Therefore, it is important that partners inform EPA of any changes to program contacts by using the My ENERGY STAR Account tool (MESA).
